The Farm of
Hope is an egg production and distribution business based just outside the
village of Assahoun in the southwest corner of Togo, a small independent nation
in West Africa. Located
approximately 55 kilometers from the capital city of Lomé, the Farm of
Hope is home to 8000 chickens who produce nearly 1,400,000 eggs per year
– roughly 5% of the total egg production in this small nation.
“The
Farm” is a unique venture founded in 1998 by two friends with
complementary skills and a common desire to bring change to their country. The Farm was born with a threefold
purpose:
1.
to
deliver daily egg production that offers quality nutrition at affordable prices
2.
to
create jobs and opportunity in a region with 30% unemployment and harsh poverty
3.
to
grow into Togo’s largest and best run farm and serve as a model for
agricultural business in this developing but still largely agrarian economy.
